About Our Theater
Building construction began in November, 2006 under the direction of general contractor Lloyd Heckel of Elkins. American Mountain Theater received its certificate of occupancy on July 27, 2007 and, later that evening, held its first public performance.
The theater is located on 1.2 acres of land in the Historic Elkins Railyard. The 12,784 square-foot brick building includes a 527-seat state-of-the-art auditorium, concession area, gift shop, and lobby. The theater is handicapped accessible.
American Mountain Theater\’s real estate, building and equipment appraise for nearly 1.7 million dollars.
The theater was designed with guest comfort and convenience in mind. Plush theater seats include armrests and cup holders. Extra-wide aisles facilitate entry and exit from rows, preventing the need for standing up or shifting when other guests move about.
The sound system is a state-of-the-art line-array hi-fi stereo system featuring SLS Speakers for both the house and monitor speakers. It is powered using an Ashley four-way digital crossover and Electra-Voice power amplifiers. The mixing console is a Yamaha 32 channel digital board with the capability of 16 different mixes. The acoustical design of the auditorium and sound systems ensure consistent volume levels throughout the entire theater.
